CEO & Co-Founder
Reza has over 25 years of technical experience in the storage industry and has held various technical and executive positions in a number of public and private technology companies. His passion is developing advanced technologies, including high performance databases.
Before co-founding Levyx, Reza was CTO of Software at sTec (a Nasdaq-listed company and pioneer of enterprise SSDs), laying the foundation of sTec's enterprise software business. Prior to sTec he was CTO at Digital Spectrum where his team built one of the first mobile video communication products and was the Co-founder and CEO of Clenova, a search and discovery solution company.
Reza also previously served as Chief Technologist at Procom Technology (a Nasdaq-listed company) for ten years, where he started their NAS product and business and founded the Candelis subsidiary, a provider of application specific storage solutions for medical imaging and healthcare markets. After Procom was acquired by Sun Microsystem, Reza became the CTO of Candelis. Before joining Procom Reza worked at AT&T GIS (now Teradata) as a researcher working on very large database systems.
Reza holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA and part of his thesis work has been adopted by SQL working group for extending SQL to support processing sequential patterns.
CTO & Co-Founder
Tony is a Professor of Computer Science at University of California, Irvine. He is a co-author of two popular text books on embedded software design and has published over 80 peer reviewed conference and journal articles as well as many issued US Patents in the areas of embedded systems and systems software. In 2011, Professor Givargis received the prestigious American Society for Engineering Education Frederick Emmons Terman Award in recognition of his contributions to the profession.
Over the years, Tony has supervised a number of successful Ph.D. and MS students and has raised millions of dollars in funding to carry out his research at UC Irvine. As a consultant, Tony provided expert reports and testimony in the first Apple vs. Samsung Electronics legal proceedings from 2011 to 2012. In the recent years, his interest has focused heavily on ultra-high performance databases, emerging storage technologies, and big data.
Luis has spent most of his 20-plus year corporate finance career helping businesses grow by executing strategic plans and through targeted acquisition strategies and capital raisings. In his most recent position as the SVP of Corporate Development at sTec (a Nasdaq-listed company and pioneer of enterprise SSDs), Luis helped guide strategic decision-making from the company’s early history as a small commodity memory module manufacturer, helping it evolve to its preeminent status as a global market leader in the multi-billion solid-state drive industry. He also led sTec’s acquisition strategy, financings, joint ventures, and major global projects, including expanding manufacturing overseas.
Prior to this, Luis worked at Lehman Brothers (now Barclays) in the Technology Group of the Investment Banking Division focusing on semiconductor companies. While there he executed a range of corporate finance transactions including public and private capital raisings of both debt and equity; M&A; strategic advisory; and hedging strategies. Over his career, Luis has evaluated hundreds of start-ups for either investment or acquisition.
Luis holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia.
Robert M. Saman
Chief Administrative Officer & General Counsel
Robert brings to Levyx over 20 years of legal, corporate and international experience at top-tier global law firms and public, pre-IPO and private technology companies, including venture-backed enterprises. Robert has extensive experience in corporate and board governance; business development and international expansion; compliance and risk management; intellectual property; public/private M&A; securities laws; and equity and debt venture financings.
Prior to Levyx, Robert served as the General Counsel of Corent Technology, a private SaaS-enablement and software delivery as a service company, and as the Chief Legal Officer of sTec, a Nasdaq-listed company and pioneer of enterprise SSDs that was acquired by Western Digital in 2013. Prior to sTec, he held senior leadership roles within the legal departments of Gateway computers and Eclipsys Corporation, a publicly-traded provider of healthcare information technology solutions.
Robert began his legal career at a top Silicon Valley law firm (Cooley). Prior to law school, he had a complementary seven-year business career that included consultancy/auditing at Ernst & Young.
Robert holds a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, and is an inactive Certified Public Accountant.
Chief Business Development Officer
Bernie Wu has 25+ years of business experience in the data storage and security areas. He is passionate about the opportunities to deliver software that further unlocks the value and performance of newer processor and storage technologies with respect to Big Data. He has extensive start up and public company experience.
Prior to joining Leyyx, Bernie was in leadership at two Silicon Valley startups: 1) As President of ProphetStor Data Services Inc, focused on Software-defined storage for clouds, predictive analytics, and flash technologies 2) As VP of Business Development for Pi-Coral, a Flash and Object storage systems company.
Bernie was also a founder, Corporate officer, and EVP of Business Development for FalconStor Software (NASDAQ)- one of the pioneers and leaders of distributed storage virtualization of disk and tape as well as heterogeneous data replication. Over a 13 year period, his responsibilities included Product Management, Global OEM/Strategic Reseller Sales, Federal Sales, Strategic Alliances, and Joint development partnerships. Prior to that , he was SVP of Trend Micro’s (NASDAQ) Internet Division where he introduced the industry’s first virus-free email relay service in the cloud via partnerships with major ISPs/Telcos such as ATT, US WEST, and KPN.
Bernie also held VP-level positions at Cheyenne Software/Computer Associates and Conner Peripherals. He is the holder of one patent in the area of storage management. He served as a Commissioner on the 2012 Cloud Computing Committee, a joint Federal Government-Industry advisory group. He received BS/MS Engineering degrees from UC Berkeley and an MBA from UCLA.
VP of Business Development
Matt has been an innovator / entrepreneur in Capital Markets financial technology for 20+ years.
He has been a key player at several successful innovative financial technology firms including:
- Co-founder at 29West (low latency messaging technology) which exited to Informatica after which he focused on global financial services solutions for Informatica.
- RedHat CIO during transition period to the now popular subscription business model.
- Principal at O’Connor & Associates (bought by Swiss Bank which was acquired by UBS Investment Bank).
- Software Architect of RMDS at Rich Inc (sold to Reuters)
At Swiss Bank he rose to co-CIO and later was Global Head of the Fixed Income & Treasury Division of UBS. Matt also served on the board of directors at Swapswire.com (now MarkitServe) and launched FPML, serving as founding co-chair of the Standards Committee.
David is a tenured associate professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, spending the 2015-6 academic year on sabbatical at the Google Brain project. He received his Ph.D. from MIT. David is a technical advisor to Levyx.
David has served as CTO of a regional Internet service provider in the early days of consumer Internet access and was most recently a co-founder of Marianas Labs, a deep learning startup. His ongoing research focuses on distributed systems, systems support for large-scale machine learning, and the integration of advanced storage technologies into high-performance data processing clusters.
Ashfaq A. Munshi
Ash is a serial entrepreneur and senior technology executive. He currently serves as the CEO of Pepperdata, a Bay Area-based start-up that develops software that governs and guarantees consistent, peak performance of large Hadoop clusters. Prior to this, Ash was most recently the CEO of Graphite Systems, a company that built a very large scale, high performance flash server which was sold recently to EMC. Ash is currently Chairman and co-founder, together with CMU professors Alex Smola and David Andersen, of Marianas Labs, a company focused on building infrastructure for scalable machine learning. Ash is also a founding board member of Aevena, a company building indoor drones. Previously, he was CTO of Yahoo! Inc.
Ash is passionate about applying deep technology, particularly mathematical algorithms, to solve business problems. He has founded and sold a number of technology companies, resulting in over $1B in exits, and has held senior executive at Applied Materials, Oracle, and Silicon Graphics. Ash has been the CEO of both private and public companies, and served on a variety of boards. He has a passion working with talented founders to help with technology, product-market fit, financing and liquidity events.
Tom is an Executive Vice President at TIBCO Software in Palo Alto, California. For many years, Tom was responsible for TIBCO's Global Engineering, Support, and Product Management groups. Prior to TIBCO, Tom was the founder of Talarian Corporation, a leading provider of middleware. Talarian went public in 2000 and was acquired by TIBCO in 2002.
Tom has published over 30 articles in recognized scientific publications in the area of distributed computing and artificial intelligence. He has an M.S. in Computer Science from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
Elizabeth (Liz) A. Tinkham
Liz Tinkham is a Senior Managing Director with Accenture, the world’s leading global technology and strategy consultancy. She has a deep background in knowing how to grow clients, markets, practices and new businesses having been part of Accenture’s leadership since 1997. She is an industry expert in the areas of telecommunications, media and high technology, and known for her ability to solve ambiguous strategic problems for clients. Liz recently held the position of Senior Client Lead for Microsoft, growing the account into one of the largest within Accenture, as well as advancing the Accenture/Microsoft partnership globally. Currently, Liz leads a global strategy initiative as Accenture’s Group Chief Executive of the Communications, Media and Technology P/L. Liz also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Foster School. Liz graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. She is a 2014 recipient of The Distinguished Alumni award from the College of Engineering. She is a Board Member and Treasurer of Washington STEM and has served on several other charitable boards while in Chicago.
